This is Abvy's Valentines gift to the Room.. a joke.
The Gift
Seems God was just about done creating the Universe, but had two extra things left in his bag of creations. So, He decided to split them between Adam and Eve. He told the couple that one of the things he had to give away was the ability to stand up while urinating. It's a very handy thing, God told the couple. "I was wondering if either one of you wanted the ability?" Adam jumped up and blurted out, "Oh, give that to me. I'd love it. Please, oh please, let me have that ability. It would be great. When I'm out working in the garden, I could just stand there and let it fly. It would be so cool, I could write my name in the sand. Oh, please God, let it be me who you give that gift to." On and on he went like an excited little boy...Eve just smiled and told God that if Adam really wanted it so badly, he should have it. She added it was the sort of thing that would make him happy and she wouldn't mind if Adam was the one given this ability. And so, Adam was given the ability to control the direction of his urine while in a vertical position. Adam was so happy, he celebrated by wetting down the bark on the tree nearest him and laughing with delight all the while. And it was good. "Fine", God said, looking back into his bag of leftover gifts. "What's left in here? Oh yes, Multiple Orgasms... "

when i posted the Inquirer article in an egroup, i got the following rejoinder from one of the members....
I don't get this person's point. Did we fight the Japanese in WWII for
the Americans or because they had invaded our country and because we
fought for our homes and families? Perhaps he has watched too many
American WWII movies and not read the books of Filipino authors during
that period? Why does this author think that other countries owe us
something because of the past? Are they responsible for our problems or
are we? Is the decision to support the effort in Iraq a decision to
support America? I do not think other countries see it that way. Why
is he looking for recognition from other countries? Is he implying that
the Philippines has an "insecurity" complex? Can it be that people who
sound anti-colonialist are themselves trapped in being colonial in
thinking?
Also, if we know the US is not going to reward us for our support, then
why does he keep asking for it? Why does he think people are still
expecting it?
In any global conflict, one must choose sides for one simple reason:
there is no choice. WWII was fought by Filipinos because it entered our
shores. As for Iraq, we should ask ourselves: if Saddam were around to
threaten the Middle East with chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons,
would it be better for our OFWs there in the long run or would it be
better if their jobs were temporarily suspended and preserved after a
short war --- which, by the way, it will be. I think Saddam poses a
long term threat that would hurt the OFWs in the future even more.
Would there then not be more opportunities within Iraq for OFW jobs than
there are today? The world is at it is, no matter how one riles against
it. No one said it was a fair world. One can stand on high moral
ground in their opinion and suddenly find that someone else has bought
the land he stands on and is kicking him out because he was not minding
the store. Government is practical, pragmatic, and self serving for its
own people's interests. I wish our government were that way. If the
Philippine government protected its own people and stopped stealing from
them, the rest of the world would respect us. There are warnings about
the Philippines because the NY Times says that kidnapping ransoms are
now a $60-$70M business a year. Should we force the world to ignore
that or should we fix it? Too many of the resources of the company are
now being funneled to politicians and crooks.
What does this guy have against the anti-money laundering laws? That is
one way the world is moving to stop corruption, especially in the
Philippines. It is the politicians who are really worried about this
law; don't be fooled. Instead of complaining about the length of time
for money transfers, the administration should set up financial
instruments and systems to advance the money for a few days for OFWs;
bankers know how to do this. It seems to me that that is easier to do
than to go up against the world on this money laundering law.
Calculations
(by Conrado de Quiros, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Feb 5, 2003)
JOKER Arroyo had something very interesting to say last week. In a press conference with fellow senators Francis Pangilinan and Ralph Recto, he said the position we should take was to be neutral in the American war on Iraq. If strong countries like France and Germany would have no part in that war, he said, weak ones like the Philippines would be foolish to plunge headlong into it. There were no advantages to be gained from supporting the United States there. Thus far, he said -- and this was the interesting part -- all we've gotten by way of reward for backing the United States all out in its "war against terror" was to be listed among the countries Americans should not visit and to be warned that we would become a pariah in the world community if we failed to pass the money laundering law.
Good point, though rather belatedly recognized. You reckon the support for the US "war against terror" on the basis of pure calculation -- which the warmongers in this country have been asking us to do -- and you would be hard put to find the presumed economic and political advantages that go with it. All you'll find are promises of more aid, and token efforts to give the war veterans what has always been their due to begin with. And, as Joker rightly points out, advisories against the Philippines for being a magnet for terrorist attacks that its blanket endorsement of the "war against terror" precisely makes it. And warnings to toe the line on globalization.
You look at the history of this country, as I've been saying again and again, and you will find the recognition belated. You can't find a more monumental case of the thwarting of expectations, or downright betrayal, than what happened during the World War II. There's no bigger case of one people sacrificing themselves for another than
what the Filipinos did for the Americans during the Japanese Occupation. They gave them aid and comfort, often hiding them from the Japanese under pain of imprisonment or death. All because of friendship.
Franklin Roosevelt vowed at the start of the War he would indemnify the Filipinos to the last carabao that they lost. What his successor did after the war was not just to rehabilitate Japan and Germany but to make rehabilitation funds for the Philippines conditional upon the approval of the notorious "parity rights." And to turn Filipinos,
represented by the late actor Pancho Magalona, into comic relief in subsequent Hollywood war movies, if indeed they figured in them at all.
I've always said I couldn't understand why the rich and middle class couldn't understand the adulation of the masses for Joseph Estrada when the fellow's concern for them was patently mythical. I couldn't understand that because the same thing is enshrined in our foreign policy -- it is its very cornerstone -- and they can't seem to see
it. That is what our foreign policy is, one based on adulation for John Wayne, whom we take to be friend, patron and benefactor, but whose concern for the country is patently mythical. All Estrada had to do was invoke "Erap para sa mahirap" -- which was more than a slogan, it was a shibboleth -- and his legions were willing to lay
down their lives for him. All America has to do is invoke Bataan and Corregidor -- which are more than places, they are a state of mind -- and we are wiling to lay down our lives for it.
It's idiotic. You go by sheer calculation, what have we gained by fighting the Japanese for America? What have we gained by helping to fight the Koreans, the Vietnamese, the Chinese, the Russians and every other American enemy for America? What do we stand to gain by fighting the Iraqis for America? All we got in the past were one-
sided treaties (parity rights for Americans, the US bases), cultural and political alienation from our Asian neighbors, and Ferdinand Marcos, who declared martial law with the support of Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger. All we're getting at present are more American troops, a reputation for being a terrorist haven, and a free advertisement for being money launderers and downright crooks.
What we'll get in the future is a horde of OFWs trekking home after having lost their jobs. If not indeed OFWs coming home in body bags from standing in the way of friendly and hostile fire. The friendly fire coming from the American smart bombs and the hostile one coming from equally smart terrorist ones are resentful of Filipino anti-Arab sentiment. Now that we stand on the brink of war, we hear voices in our midst warning that it will wreak havoc on our economy. But Jesus Christ, wasn't that obvious before? Wasn't that clear as day as far back as a year ago when Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo took that suicidal tack of going all out for the Americans? Even without a war on Iraq, that would have spelled doom for the future of Filipino overseas who work in Arab lands. Not to speak of the Filipinos themselves who have turned into objects of terrorist enmity.
GMA wants to do something for the OFWs, or indeed for every Filipino whether at home or abroad, she need not fly to Kuwait, or even Iraq itself, to show them she cares. She need only add her voice to the chorus of voices from all over the world -- not least in the US, where the antiwar sentiment has now overtaken the pro-war one --
condemning George Bush's folly. She need only assure everyone she would do everything in her power to try to stop a war whose effects on this country cannot be more mind-boggling than if it lay in the line of fire itself. Can you imagine what would happen to this already desperate country if we lost our labor market in the Middle
East? And all for a friend and patron that's far more fickle and untrustworthy than Estrada. At least Estrada makes us laugh.
That's just the part about rational calculation. We haven't even touched the moral aspect of it yet.

1962 - 1968
-- Packet-switching (PS) networks developed Why is this relevant?
As we will see later the Internet relies on packets to transfer data.
The origin is military : for utmost security in transferring information of networks (no single outage point).
Data is split into tiny packets that may take different routes to a destination.
Hard to eavesdrop on messages.
More than one route available -- if one route goes down another may be followed.
Networks can withstand large scale destruction (Nuclear attack - This was the time of the Cold War).

1982
-- TCP/IP defines future communication
DCA and ARPA establishes the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP), as the protocol suite, commonly known as TCP/IP, for ARPANET.
Why is this relevant?
Leads to one of the first definitions of an internet as a connected set of networks, specifically those using TCP/IP, and Internet as connected TCP/IP internets.

Cyberbegging!
Tangna. Nauuso na ang mga pulubi sa internet.
Bwahahah. Paging Filipinos out to get a few bucks. Here's a great tip. Begging your pardon but mendicancy through the net works. Just create your own site...develop a good angle...love plus sob stories will always get them. (remember the Love Virus? that was a great hook!!!)
Nakanampucha..I wont even have to sell my BODY!!! .Read this Reuters Article and Weep. Websites run the gamut from Save Karyn to via http://www.helpmeleavemyhusband.com. You won't get seriously rich, but it seems a bit of ingenuity is worth a few bucks.
Friday, Jul 26, 2002
Tonight I scored on my neighbor's tomato plants. Just as I suspected, he was growing too many tomatos for one guy to eat, and brought some over. They were good. All you need is a little salt, and you got yourself a meal! (See Friday, July 12th's Daily Buck for the story behind the tomatoes.)
Thursday, July 25, 2002
Tonight I decided to explore the condiments in my fridge, and found some spray butter. I also found some soy cheese that's been hiding in the butter compartment for months now. To me, that equals grilled cheese. Kick butt.
I had to take the top off the butter and dab it on in spots around the bread because there wasn't a lot left. When I grilled the sandwich, only those spots turned brown. But the fake cheese melted really nice.

LEMON. What comes into my mind when i think of that Great Chatter Lemon? Plenty plenty...
but first let me capture for this blog, what that sizzling chatter Cadbury says re: the Great Lemon,
"im the online daughter of Lemon, one of the spunkiest and wittiest chatterheads ive ever met...call her mom, mum, or mommy, never by her
first name cuz if theres one thing ive ever learned in the fil rooms, its totally a taboo calling yer parents by their first names...not that mom's way way older than i am, but i guess weve like established that bloodline and it would be pointless and too late to undo things...id like to say upfront that i kinda view things thatve been
happening between us as totally positive (at least, at my end LOL)...luv her to death, and i feel like its a filial duty that i always remind (uhmm, okay, so threathen is the right werd!!!) newbies and schmucks alike to lay off her else their gonne get tongue-lashing fires of hell...
yeah, yeah, i know, i babble too much, --- caddie
What does lemonix have to say to the UP Room in general?
Hello guys!!! OK ha mabenta ang yahoogroup na ito. First day 25 messages!!! Ang sisipag nyo mag-email, palibhasa chatters - madadaldal. Good thing i'm using the Daily Digest option. But I bet maraming nabigla sa dami ng emails.
I'm thinking of something silly, just for kicks again. I wonder how you would all react if with every email i send, i will not delete the string of emails that i respond to. Remember that I am using the Daily Digest option . Evil... disaster... how many bytes? I can only imagine. --lemonix
To the UP Room Founder?
Hey Hardy!!! Miss you man! Kwento ka naman. We'd like to hear from you, UP Room master . -- Lemonix
To Lolo foo
Wala bang synopsis? -- Lemonix
And to Margarita2go?
Marge, #!%$^@ ANG HABA NG BUHOK MONG BAKLA KA!! -- Lemonix
to baby Persh,
As to Persh wondering if she's a reggie... let her wonder some more, just for kicks, you know. -- lemonix
There you have it!!! Words of Wisdom from the Great Lemonix...whose words of inspiration are few but rooted in sagacity and learnedness.
Now Here are some Lemon Ideas:
Lemon Granita
Lemon Granita can be served in wine glasses or for an extra special look hollow out a lemon and place the granita in the shell of the lemon.
What you need:
1 1/2 cups of sugar
1 to 2 tablespoons grated lemon zest
2 1/2 cups of water
1 cup of fresh lemon juice
What you do:
Combine sugar, lemon zest and 1/2 cup water in small saucepan. Bring to simmering, stirring until sugar is dissolved. remove from heat.
Combine sugar mixture, remaining water and lemon juice in 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan. Freeze 1 1/2 hours. Stir every 30 minutes to break up crystals until evenly crystallized (mixture can be frozen in ice-cream maker, according to manufacturer's instructions).
Spoon into glasses (or lemon shell). Serve with cookies.
Lemon Drop Cookies (Anginetti)
What you need:
3 eggs
l/2 cup milk
2 tsp. lemon extract
l/2 cup sugar
l/2 cup vegetable oil
3 cups flour
8 tsp.baking powder
(some have worried that is an excessive amount of baking powder)
"8 tsps. baking powder is the correct amount. It does sound like a lot but the cookies will come out nice and light. The dough should be soft and sticky. Add a little flour on to your fingers. They are very good cookies. Happy Holidays!"
What you do:
Heat oven to 350 degrees. In an electric mixer on medium speed, beat eggs, milk, lemon extract, sugar, and oil until well blended.
On low speed, add flour and baking powder. Mix until just blended. The dough should be soft and sticky. Lightly dust the dough and your fingers with a little additional flour.
Drop dough from a teaspoon onto a lightly greased cookie sheet, spacing cookies 2 inches apart. Bake immediately for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.
Remove cookies from cookie sheet onto wire racks. Cool. Frost with Lemon confectioners' sugar.
If it is necessary to freeze cookies, use heavy-duty plastic freezer bags and freeze the cookies unfrosted. Makes about 50 cookies.
Lemon Confectioners' Frosting
What you need:
6 cups confectioners' sugar
2 tsp. lemon extract
l/2 cup water
What you do:
In an electric mixer on medium speed, beat all ingredients until smooth. Using a metal spatula, frost the tops of the cookies. The frosting will drip down the sides and coat the cookies. Dry the frosted cookies on racks. Store in airtight container
Note:You can substitute anise or another extract to create different flavors. This cookie is popular on wedding cookie platters or other occasions.
Lemonade Pie
What you need:
1 8oz. container of Cool Whip
1 Keebler Graham Cracker pie crust
1 14oz. can Eagle Bran condensed milk
1 6oz. can Lemon - Aid Thawed
What you do:
In medium sized bowl add Cool Whip, milk, and Lemon-Aid: careful not to make it runny.
After blending it well with a spoon or fork, add the mixture to the pie crust .Top with a sugar coated lemon on top and freeze.
Keep frozen and serve as you wish.
Variations:
You may use orange juice, grape juice, or pink lemon aid!
Lemon Pie
This light and refreshing end to a summer meal is perfect for every occasion. The zest or lemon rind adds additional flavor and richness to the pie. A dollop of freshly whipped cream creates a heavenly finish to this delicious pie.
What you need:
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons flour
4 eggs
1 tablespoon grated lemon rind
6 tablespoons lemon juice ( from 3 lemons)
½ cup butter, melted
½ teaspoon vanilla
¼ teaspoon almond extract
1 frozen 9-inch deep-dish pie shell
¼ cup slivered almonds
What you do:
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Position oven rack in lower third of oven.
Stir together sugar and flour in a bowl. Add to eggs in another bowl and beat until light in color and slightly thickened, about 3 minutes. Add the butter after the eggs are beaten.
Stir in lemon rind, lemon juice, vanilla, and almond extract. Pour into pie shell. Place pie on baking sheet.
Bake in lower third of 350 degree oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until filling is set and lightly browned.
Meanwhile, toast the slivered almonds in a skillet over medium-high heat stirring, until just lightly browned, about 4-5 minutes. Sprinkle toasted almonds over top of the pie. Cool on wire rack

Tips of how to stay young….
Research has found that people who generally live longer do so partly because of good habits. Here, Dr. Vernon Coleman and others provide some of the following good habits for longevity
1. Laugh & fun, don’t be gloomy
2. Let bygones be bygones. Dwelling on the past inflicts unnecessary stress
3. Early to bed, early to rise, is healthy and wise
4. Stay lean, being just 30% overweight is bad
5. Keep learning, reading and socializing – an alert & active mind keeps brain cells healthy
6. Keep working, doing something you like. Don’t retire, it slows down your body.
7. Be the boss of your own life. Letting others push you around produces stress.
8. Too many pills ruin your body, take just what you need
9. Constantly alternating between weight gain & loss is bad
10. Exercise, quit smoking and eat less fatty foods
11. Do not worry health & death, just get on with your life and enjoy it.
Kaya pag may gusto
Childhood friends kami. As in baby pa lang magkakilala na kami.
(May kung anong graphics muna) Juz hope dis HUG cud make up for ol d tyms I was supposd 2 txt u but wasn't able 2.GudPm! God Bless! Sender: MaU

Eh naliligo pala. No choice ako.
Ako: Naliligo sya.
Alex: Ha?
Ako: Alex?
Alex: Anong sabi mo?
Ako: ALEX!!!
Alex: MAU!!! Buhay ka pa pala
Ako: Oo naman.
Alex: Ligo ka na. Punta tayo SM, libre kita.
Nakakairita.
Ako: Hello?
Caller: Mau?
Ako: Yup. Sino to?
Caller: Si Anton. Wow. Kuya ni Alex. Gwapo yun. Bakit kaya?
il reach 4 ur hand n d cold of winter. Il reach 4 ur hand n d heat of summr. But f my short lyf cant reach d dawn of spring, I promis n heavn il reach u wid my wings. I hope he reaches me with his wings.

Maalaala Mo Kaya? (as posted by flying22be)
E yung taguang bato, agawang panyo, takipsilim, luksong lubid, hilahang lubid, chinese garter, jackstones, trumpo, saranggola, softball, sipa, siyatong, piko, at sungka?
teks, at jolens.
At syempre pag may niluluto, may apoy. Madalas nagsasabay yung lutu-lutuan at bahay-bahayan. Naluluto yung bahay.
by the way, i created a .blog for the UP Reggies Room. ! . Don't know what to do with it but here's the URL. We will probably know later what can be done with it. If not, we'll just send it to the cyberspace limbo
On behalf of all the members of up_room_reggies, I would like to commend
Miss Abvy for her exemplary performance beyond the call of duty to create
our Yahoo Group! As a token of my gratitude, Miss Abvy is entitled to an
all expense paid trip to Disneyland! Miss Abvy, please claim your prize
personally here in Makati before 4 p.m. today. Happy trip!
